Get on Board is a programme run by The Bishop’s Action Foundation in partnership with Taranaki Young Professionals (TYP) and The Wheelhouse as part of our regional strategy to enhance governance skills in the community.
The purpose of Get on Board is to support the development of new board members across Taranaki in the community and Not-for-Profit sector. Get on Board has been supporting young professionals in their board development since 2019. A new cohort of trainees are placed onto a local board within Taranaki annually, where they gain practical experience and contribute their fresh ideas and perspectives.
The programme offers trainees the opportunity to learn from well-functioning, supportive boards who provide positive learning experiences, while developing the trainee’s confidence to become an active board member in the community. Participants receive training support via The Wheelhouse workshops including Governance, Planning and Financial Management.
Participating boards have praised the input and work ethic of the trainee board members and the fantastic contributions they have made to the boards they are on. Get on Board continues to prove its success when trainees go on to hold permanent positions on their host board or another community board.
