Get on Board

The Get on Board programme, delivered by The Bishop’s Action Foundation in partnership with Taranaki Young Professionals (TYP) and The Wheelhouse, forms a key part of our regional strategy to strengthen governance capacity within the for-purpose sector.

We are proud of the programme’s impact, with many participants progressing into permanent governance roles on local, regional, and national for-purpose boards.

Get on Board supports the development of emerging board members across Taranaki’s community and for-purpose sector. Each year, a cohort of interns is placed with local boards, where they gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.

The programme provides a supportive learning environment, connecting interns with high-performing boards committed to fostering positive governance experiences. Participants build confidence and capability as active contributors, supported by structured training delivered by The Wheelhouse. This includes workshops focused on governance, strategic planning, and financial management.

Participating boards consistently highlight the professionalism, enthusiasm, and strong work ethic of interns, as well as the meaningful contributions they bring.
