Selwyn Centres / Social Isolation

About This Project

BAF has partnered with Auckland’s Selwyn Foundation to help prevent social isolation of older people throughout the Waikato and Taranaki regions.

Through this partnership our current priority is supporting the establishment of Selwyn Centres within Taranaki and the Waikato as a response to social isolation.

The Selwyn Centres offer social activities, outings, friendship, gentle exercise, laughter, help and support to those over 65 who may be living alone or have limited opportunity to get out and about.

The programme is community based and is designed to protect older people from social isolation or loneliness. Although based mainly in the Anglican Church premises, the centres serve older people from across the entire community.

We have centres operating in Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Morrinsville and Opunake. The Opunake centre is delivered in partnership with the Taranaki based Tainui Resthome and Village.
