Faith-Based Organisations Contributing to Social Change in Aotearoa New Zealand

This research was originally conducted in 2013 for the Bishop’s Action Foundation (BAF) through the Centre for Theology and Public Issues, University of Otago. In the years since then it has been used to inform and guide BAF strategy and policy through evidence-based analysis. The research was refreshed and updated in 2019 to reflect important changes in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the globe.  Since 2019 the world has once again changed, particularly with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.  However, despite these important changes, there is much in the report that remains as relevant now as it was before so we have decided to re-launch the repot again. The question it addresses – how churches and faith-based organisations can achieve greater impact on policy and decision-making to support justice driven outcomes – remains of profound importance for churches, faith-based organisations, and for all who support their work to give voice to those on the margins.
